Welcome to the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Challenge! This free program encourages you to read 1,000 books before your child starts kindergarten.
The concept is simple: the rewards are priceless. Studies have shown that families who start reading aloud to their children at birth: help build language skills, cultivate an extensive vocabulary, and improve attention spans and listening skills.


How the Challenge Works
- Read with your child.
- When you read a book, color or check off the picture in your reading log. Any story read to your child at daycare, preschool, the library, or a repeat read counts too.
- Bring your reading log to the library so we can make a copy, and you can collect your prize!
