It is the policy of the George Coon Public Library to provide a comfortable environment that is conducive to the use of library resources, services, and programs either by individuals or small groups. To ensure that the library is a welcoming environment for the entire community, all patrons are expected to observe the rights of other patrons and staff members and comply with the following rules of conduct.
The Board of Trustees of the George Coon Public Library has adopted the following policy regarding conduct. Patrons will follow federal, state, and local laws and policies and will be expected to behave in a safe and orderly manner.
The following kinds of behavior will not be allowed in the library or on library grounds:
- Any behavior that endangers safety or health or is disruptive, inappropriate, or prevents the effective use of the library by others.
- Vandalism or theft of property or materials belonging to the library, another patron, or an employee.
- Smoking, chewing tobacco, or the use of e-cigarettes.
- Panhandling, soliciting, or loitering.
- Deliberate disruption of library services.
- Possessing, consuming, or being under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs.
- Using public restrooms for bathing, shaving, or washing clothes.
- Sleeping on library furniture or within the library.
- Not wearing appropriate attire, including shirt and shoes, at all times.
- Eating and drinking in areas that are not designated for these activities.
- Bringing animals or pets, other than service animals and those assisting persons with disabilities, into the building.
- Failing to supervise a child of whom you are a parent or legal guardian so that he/she does not disturb other persons in the library or damage library property.
- Any behavior or noise created by persons, electronic devices, or cell phones that is disruptive to other patrons.
